Important notice: New US tariff rules for postal shipments – Effective 29 August 2025

Australia Post have just provided notice of upcoming changes affecting shipments into the USA as a result of the new tariff regime.

The key points are:

  1. Tariff of 10% applied, paid to CBP prior to arriving in the US.
Goods with Australia as the COO (country-of-origin) are subject to a 10% tariff when being imported into the US.
  2. Handling fees +AUD$ TBC
  3. Duties are to be collected prior to goods entering the US
US Customs & Border Protection has indicated that the duties and taxes will be collected on goods prior to entering the US. CBP has not yet advised the preferred method for duty and tax collection.
  4. Suspension of de minimis threshold
The USD$800 exemption for low-value goods has been removed for postal and commercial sending.
  5. Value of goods in your customs declaration and the manifest. This must be declared accurately for each item within your parcel. Incomplete or incorrect customs declarations will result in items being returned.

How does this affect me?

From 29 August 2025 these costs will be added to the total price of orders dropshipped to the USA. Costs will include the 10% tariff plus the handling fee charged to us by Australia Post. We are still awaiting details from AusPost regarding the handling fee and how this will all be implemented.

It’s a developing situation, we’ll keep you posted once we know more.
